Saturday 9 May 2026 at 18:00
Malmesbury's first Guitar Festival featuring Jazz, Folk and Progressive music.
Starting us off on the Saturday night is John Etheridge who rightly enjoys a glowing reputation throughout the jazz world and beyond and has been described by Pat Metheny as, "One of the best guitarists". He is a prodigiously gifted and creative player whose approach to music can only be described as 'eclectic' as he refuses to accommodate or even acknowledge artificial musical boundaries. He is a regular guest on Jazz Line-up -most recently a live duo set from the Bath Festival with pianist John Horler, and is often a guest on Radio3's In Tune programme.
Sunday sees a triple bill of artists from Welsh instrumentalist Toby Hay, Jazz duo Gina Griffin and Andy Christie (who you may have seen at our Sofa Sessions) and local folk outing The Picture Framers.
Toby Hay is a Welsh guitarist and composer based in the Cambrian Mountains, renowned for his intricate, nature-inspired instrumental folk music. His work, deeply connected to landscape, memory, and Welsh hiraeth, includes albums like The Gathering and New Music for the 12 String Guitar, often featuring his own Cambrian Records label.
Gina and Andy perform original arrangements of jazz standards and Hot Club. Gina's unique command over the violin, often scat singing in harmony is mesmerising and Andy's clean polished jazz guitar in the vein of Metheny and Etheridge underpins the violin harmonies perfectly. This is classic perfect Sunday music vibes.
The Picture Framers are Viv Sherman, a singer and songwriter based in North Wiltshire. Guitarist for Pack Horse Ceilidh band and occasionally other bands too. Often seen playing in music sessions in his local area. Viv also uses melodeon to achieve drones, chords and simple melodies in the songs to compliment Chez's banjo playing. The other half of The Picture Framers is Chez Dunford, an independent musician performing both self-penned and traditional folk songs. Based in Bristol and the Forest of Dean. She plays piano accordion, banjo and occasionally trumpet. Chez is a theatre maker, circus artist and community practitioner using music and story to connect people.
Tickets:
Saturday night only featuring John Etherdige £15
Sunday only featuring all three acts £20
Weekend including all 4 acts £30

EXTRA isn’t just a band—it’s a dare. For listeners ready to be hurled into the unexpected, this trio offers the thrill of pure musical combustion, with no safety net in sight.
In EXTRA, three of contemporary music’s most fearless improvisers collide in a sonic high-speed chase that redefines what a jazz trio can be. Far from revisiting standards or offering tidy interplay, the group constructs an explosive, multilayered language where glitchy electronics, hardcore grooves, and unruly textures crash into one another—often within a single phrase.
The band fuses Evans’ sculptural trumpet vocabularies with Eldh’s hyperactive bass playing and Jim Black’s volatile rhythmic outbursts. The result is a kinetic, shape- shifting sound world where every moment is packed with risk and surprise. Each musician pushes the others into new terrain: Evans fires compressed bursts of sound or labyrinthine melodic spirals, Eldh loops, twists, and distorts the pulse, while Black triggers acoustic and electronic ruptures that defy easy categorisation.
Described as “relentless in the best way” (Free Jazz Collective), EXTRA creates music that is at once deeply technical and gleefully anarchic. It is a band with no brakes, where even moments of silence feel charged with potential energy. Their debut album, EXTRA (2024, We Jazz Records), has been called “one of the best jazz records of the year” (Monolith Cocktail), celebrated for its urgent pace and wild, genre-bending unpredictability.
Wednesday 27 May 2026 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM
With their signature blend of gritty ragtime, country heart, bluesy stomp and folk-fuelled fire, all served with a fistful of "musical talent and unbridled humour", The Swamp Stomp String Band deliver brazen, theatrical live shows that turn dance floors into dust clouds and spontaneous cider-soaked singalongs into unforgettable nights.
Armed with gritty guitars, twanging banjos, howling harmonicas, a thudding double bass, pounding drums and their distinctive flat pack honky-tonk piano, they tear through everything from riotous songs of questionable life choices to heart-worn ballads and modern sea shanties. Play your cards right and you might even get invited for a waltz.
Fiercely independent, they self-record, self-promote, and self release every track, working with friends, family and loved ones at every stage they bring a true DIY spirit to every stomp, shout and sweaty encore.
For over 10 years they've stormed stages across the UK, from muddy festival fields to ram-packed city venues. And with three successful, self promoted tours behind them, this band unapologetically continues to hold two fingers up to algorthithm-friendly, over polished imitations and prove its still possible to play with heart, energy and personality.
Friday 12 June 2026 7:30 PM - 11:00 PM
Peddling filthy jump blues, disgraceful boogie, and downright reprehensible rock ’n’ roll, The Gentle Hooligans whip up a riot of hot dancing, jazzy rhythms, risqué banter, and dazzling showmanship—delivering a night of high-energy revelry and theatrical mayhem.
Expect a rockabilly and rock ’n’ roll blues party with an unmistakably upper-crust twist. Naturally, we also bring along our delightful and well-stocked band hamper.
